What is cooperative?

An autonomous and duly registered association of persons, with a common bond of interest, who have voluntarily joined together to achieve their social, economic, and cultural needs and aspirations by making equitable contributions to the capital required, patronizing their products and services, and accepting a fair share of the risks and benefits of the enterprise.”

Who is SMC Community & Employees Multi-purpose Cooperative?

SMC Community & Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative is a member-owned and community-driven organization dedicated to providing financial services, livelihood support, and social development programs. It operates under the principles of cooperativism, ensuring that members benefit from affordable financial assistance, savings programs, and business opportunities. By promoting economic stability and mutual support, the cooperative empowers its members and strengthens the broader community.

How to Become a member of SMC Community & Employees MPC?

Membership Qualification

  • Filipino citizen, of legal ae and with capacity to contract
  • Regular & permanent employee of SMC, it’s subsidiaries and business affiliates.
  • Direct dependents of a coop member (Spouse and children).

Membership Requirements

  • Completed the Pre-Membership Education Seminar (PMES)
  • Approved application for membership
  • Subscribe and paid the required minimum share capital
  • Paid the membership fee
  • Avail of the services of the cooperative
  • Pledge to undertake the responsibilities of members and uphold the By-Laws, policies of the cooperative

What are the two classifications of membership in SMC CEMPC?

Membership Classification

  • Regular Member – Regular and permanent employee of SMC, its subsidiaries and affiliates
  • Associate Member
    • Returning Retiree of SMC, its subsidiaries and affiliates
    • Direct dependents of a coop member.

What benefits do members receive from SMC CEMPC?

What role do members play in the decision-making process of the cooperative?

Members of cooperative are the deciding forces behind new policies and decisions. Only a member/owner can run and be elected to be a members of the Board of Directors.

Who are the primary SMC CEMPC beneficiaries or customers of these/products?

All regular  and retirees of San Miguel Corporation (SMBI/SMFI) it’s affiliates and Subsidiaries and Associate members

How much is the maximum share capital a member is allowed to subscribe?

According to R.A. 9520 or the Philippine Cooperative Code of 2008, no member is allowed to invest more than ten percent (10 %) of the total share capital of the cooperative.

If in case I decided to stop being a member, What shall I do to make it Official?

After settling all loan balances and other account liabilities, one has to write a formal letter addressed to the Board of Directors stating the reason or reasons of the withdrawal. One month or thirty days is the maximum time given to the BOD to answer in the affirmative, guided by the coop principle of open and voluntary membership, after which management effects the termination by closing the applicant’s account.

Can be an officer of SMC CEMPC?

If you pass all the qualifications and none of the disqualifications provided by the Election guidelines of SMC CEMPC in particular and of the cooperative Code in general
